Music has the power to evoke energy and emotion that cannot be put into words. Music allows us to speak the unspeakable and to feel the invisible. It allows us to connect on an emotional level that reaches beyond borders.

The idea for this poster began to grow when I found some old pictures of myself playing drums. While examining them I noticed how the light and the movement of my body created interesting gestures. I began to focus on these gestures, and the way they capture the energy and emotion that music creates.

Inspired by the poly-rythms of Afro-Cuban percussion, I use multiple layers of overlapping gestures in order to create a dense visual texture. Rather than presenting a visual representation of music, I use imagery that creates in the viewer the visceral experience of rhythm and movement.
