Sharing Dreams/Compartiendo Sueños 2007:
Design in Culture/Diseño en Cultura

Nicky Alden

The youth of all cultures are brimming with hopes and dreams. They are not jaded by their life experiences, they soak up the lessons of each day and look to the future for the next entertaining activity.

There is one such activity that both Cuba and United States share a vast history and love for - baseball. It has been in both of our countries for more than 100 years and has survived wars and changes in governments. It is deeply embedded in our culture to the extent that we compare ourselves to it and apple pie. This sport could unite us, if only we could get beyond our own fences. The field is so close, and it seems to be within our reach.

But until we can run in the grass together, we can share our dreams, design, culture and love for all things baseball. Because in the end our youth just want to find a way, to play.
