Sharing Dreams/Compartiendo Sueños 2007:
Design in Culture/Diseño en Cultura
Lillian Lee
In our technology-driven world we are always within virtual reach of each other and are constantly updating our “to-do” lists. However there is a yearning for a slower pace where we can meaningfully connect with one another without being interrupted by schedules and deadlines. Child’s play, a game of string figures or cat’s cradle, can take us back to a time when we passed the hours enjoying a simple game with a friend. Using only a piece of string and a creative mind, cat’s cradle is a symbol of how we can connect and create with each other even if we do not speak the same language. This game has been passed down from generation to generation, from China to Africa to the Americas and is just as magical and fun as the first time we played it.
